Two Pieces of Westerwald Stoneware with Incised Stag Decoration, German origin, 19th century, a stein with large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a stylized deer surrounded by incised flourishes, including dotted cobalt decoration to the rim and base, with original pewter lid; paired with an ovoid, spouted jug, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a stag with reared head, flanked by scrolled vine motifs. Impressed decoration to shoulder, highlighted in cobalt slip. Cobalt banding to neck. Inscribed "III" in cobalt on reverse. Handle broken and reglued. H 14 1/4". Stein in very nice condition with some faint spider lines to underside, not visible on interior, and some minor staining. Urn on top of lid missing finial. Jug with reglued handle including a small chip and a shallow, in-the-firing base flake. H (of stein to top of lid) 8 3/4".
