Two-Gallon Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, Hartford, CT origin, possibly Peter Cross, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower with circular base, emanating from a leafy stem. Incised details throughout leaves and petals. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection. Excellent condition with some staining, a minor base chip, a tiny U-shaped line to base, a small U-shaped line to top of spout, and very minor spout wear. Spout plugged with cork and cloth material, likely related to the jug's use as a lamp. However, there is no drilling to the jug. H 15 3/4".
