Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Federal Eagle Decoration, attributed to Daniel Goodale, Hartford, CT, circa 1825-1830, ovoid jug with footed base and tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-accented design of spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest, clutching an olive branch and an American flag. Light cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The style of this jug's eagle design leads to a firm attribution to Hartford, Connecticut potter, Daniel Goodale. A small base chip and minor base nick. A small glazed-over base chip. Some minor firing flaws to surface. H 17 3/4".
