Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Motif, attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, ovoid pitcher with tooled body and short collar, decorated around the shoulder with a coggled design of a bird holding a sprig in its beak, brushed over in cobalt slip. Relatively few Branch Green pitchers are known, this example featuring a desirable large size. Excellent condition with a tight line through handle and some small, in-the-firing bloated spots to surface and a few in-the-firing base chips. H 13 1/4".
