Anna Pottery "Railroad and River Guide" Stoneware Pig Flask, Dated 1890, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1890, molded flask in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised details to face and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside. One side incised with the inscription, "Latest Rail Road and / River Guide / 1890." Body of pig profusely-incised with railroad map of the Midwestern United States, including the following landmarks: St. Louis the future Great, Miss River, Rock Island, C & A, O & M, Bellville, Chester, Purcy, Pinkville, Springfield, Gd Tower, Bloomington, Decatur, Vandalia, Palaka, I.C.R.R., murphys, ava, M & O, alto, Jonesboro, Junction, Dongola, Anna, Carbondale, Duquoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Odin, alma, Kinmudy(sic), Champgn, KKKee, Pullman, Chicago the corn city, mound city, cairo, Tunnel Hill, C V & C, Vincennes, Metropolis, Ohio River, Louisville, and Cincinnati. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Excellent condition with a shallow chip to interior of spout and a typical and minor in-the-firing chip (kiln scar) to underside of one leg.
