Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and open loop handles, decorated on the reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral design featuring "hollow" ovals on the interior of each petal. Front impressed with cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of Clarkson Crolius, Sr. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A desirable-sized jar, featuring a more-elaborate floral motif than is typically seen on signed Crolius pieces. A thin 2 1/2" jagged line from rim. A 1 5/8" in-the-firing crack on interior of rim, forming a 1 5/8" hairline on reverse. In-the-firing iron pings to surface. A small piece of adhered clay residue. Small chips and wear to base. Exfoliation to interior and underside. A few minor nicks to rim. Staining to surface. Some minor surface flakes below incised flower. H 8 1/2".
