Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "II," attributed to the Reverend John Landrum Pottery, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1820, ovoid jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and curved tab handles, the surface covered in a mottled olive and light-brown alkaline glaze. Base impressed with two vertical slash marks. Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. Large chips to handles. One handle with two additional smaller chips. Opposite handle with a minor nick to one terminal. A minor base chip. A 1 3/8" raised area of in-the-firing residue to one side along with small, glazed-over in-the-firing ping below. A tiny nick to top of rim. H 11 1/2".
