Five Pieces of Utilitarian Stoneware, American, 19th and 20th centuries, a squat-formed pitcher with brown glaze, attributed to Spartanburg County, SC; a semi-ovoid pitcher with brown glaze, Southern U.S. origin; an alkaline-glazed canning jar, SC origin; an undecorated salt-glazed canning jar, Western PA or WV origin; and a one-and-a-half-gallon Albany-slip-glazed batter pail, stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT." Provenance: A South Carolina private collection. Squat pitcher with a rim chip, tiny chip to far edge of spout, and tiny chip to handle. Taller pitcher with spout chip and small surface flakes. Alkaline-glazed canning jar with significant chipping to rim and a base chip. Salt-glazed canning jar with chips to inner "wax sealer" rim. Batter pail with spout chips, handle chips, wear to ears, and wear to interior of rim. H (of squat pitcher) 9".
