Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & / G. GOETZMAN / ROCHESTER. NY," circa 1853-1860, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a crisply slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with spotted interior and striped details to the petals and leaves. Slip-trailed wavy line decoration to spout. Cobalt accents to maker's mark. Relatively few pitchers from this pottery are known. Restored handle. A thin 4 1/4" crack from rim on side of pitcher. A 2" surface line from rim to right of spout, not visible on interior. A narrow 1 3/8" flake to interior of rim near spout. Additional small chips to interior of rim, including two small filled chips to interior of spout area. A 1 3/8" line to top of rim. Some staining to collar on right side of pitcher. In-the-firing chips to base. A 1 1/2" shallow flake to underside at edge. A tiny in-the-firing iron ping to base on reverse. H 10 3/4".
