Rare and Fine Lidded Redware Jar with with Chip-Carved Decoration, probably PA origin, circa 1825, flare-bodied jar with rounded shoulder, the body profusely-decorated with chip-carved oval banding and coggled dentile motifs. Original, slightly-domed lid features delicate scalloped carving to the edge as well as coggled and chip-carved decoration to the top. Exterior surface of jar and lid covered in a reddish-brown lead-and-manganese glaze. Underside of lid incised "14." Jar with base and rim chips, a chip to raised molding at shoulder, and surface wear throughout. Lid with a 3/4" chip to underside at edge, chips to finial, and some expected edge wear. H (including lid) 6".
