Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico County, VA, circa 1838-1868, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a long-stemmed floral motif featuring a distinctive looping blossom. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Suzita Cecil Myers Collection. Large loss to one handle. A 4" firing crack from rim on interior, partially visible on exterior. Some light surface wear. A small, glazed-over rim chip. Two base chips. Residue to underside. H 16".
