Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA. / D.C.," circa 1835, narrow-bodied, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with a continuous stems bearing leaves and three different varieties of flowers. Excellent color and decoration on an unusual slender form. Rim chips. An 8" crack from rim. A shallow 7/8" base flake and minor base nicks. H 13 3/4".
