Fine Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, attributed to Brown Pottery, Arden, NC, circa 1925, cylindrical jug with tall spout, featuring an applied clay face including eyes with raised and pierced pupils, eyebrows with incised details, well-sculpted Roman nose with carved nostrils, small ears with piercing on interior, and open mouth with broken china teeth. Surface covered in an Albany slip glaze with appealing greenish ash deposits throughout. A finely-modeled example, slightly smaller than most known. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor in-the-firing base chip. H 5 3/4".
