Very Rare Small-Sized Redware Jug, attributed to the Loy or Albright Families, Alamance County, NC origin, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded mouth, the surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a bright cream-yellow ground. The color of this jug relates to that seen on a number of examples of Alamance County redware, among them a pitcher (lot 1 in Crocker Farm's March 21, 2020 auction) as well as the Solomon Loy bowl to be sold in this auction. Exceptional size and color, as Alamance County redware jugs are typically found in a larger, orange-clayed style. Provenance: Found in Burlington, NC. Very nice condition, particularly for examples from this region. Base chips. A minor flake to shoulder. Two minor flakes to midsection. A surface line to underside of handle, which does not extend through. H 6".
