Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & CO LYONS," NY State origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and tooled accents to shoulder and rim, decorated with a large brushed design of a tulip with spotted and striped petals, flanked by freehand "3's". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A chip to interior of rim. A few chips to exterior of rim. An in-the-firing surface chip (ping) to interior shoulder. A faint 3 1/2" x 3" spider line near base on left side of jar. A minor in-the-firing iron ping to front of jar. A 1" iron ping on right side of jar at base, with a faint 4 1/2" vertical in-the-firing surface line ascending from it, not visible on interior. H 11 3/4".
