Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird in Urn Decoration, Stamped "N. WHITE. & CO. BINGHAMTON," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed slip-trailed design of a bird with raised wing seated in an open-handled urn with wreath. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Underside with black marker inscription, "COLLECTION OF ADAM JOEL WEITSMAN / #411." Some bubbling to cobalt. Two small in-the-firing iron pings to front. A 3/4" glazed-over iron ping at shoulder on reverse. A 5 1/2" and 3 1/2" line to underside. Some very minor surface flakes to base on reverse. H 13 3/8".
