Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with different incised and cobalt-highlighted floral designs. One side features a leafy stem bearing a pair of drooping flowers with open, circular accents to the centers; the other features a leafy stem bearing a blossom with circular petals, including open areas where the petals overlap. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-year private collection. Three minor rim chips. A few minor base chips. Some staining to surface. A few small in-the-firing pings to surface.
