Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Pitcher and Bowl Set, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, wheel-thrown pitcher with footed base, upswept spout, and ribbed strap handle with applied thumbrest and spurs. Surface dipped in cream-colored slip with overlying streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Bowl with strap handles embellished with faux screwhead terminals and applied balls of clay, the rear of the bowl with applied soap dish surmounted by "fiddlehead" scrollwork flanked by balls of clay. Surface of bowl dipped in a cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Pitcher in good condition with a 1 1/8" base chip, a 5/8" spout chip, other minor chipping to spout, and minor handle wear. Pitcher retains a brilliant luster with excellent color. Bowl with three rim chips (the largest measuring 1 1/2"), edge wear, wear to interior base, a long loss and flaking to soapdish, two small chips and an in-the-firing ping to applied fiddlehead ornament, and wear to foot.
