Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird and Wreath Decorations, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-tailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a leafy branch. Maker's mark and capacity mark surrounded by a slip-trailed wreath. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Water glass and other staining to surface. A thin 5 1/4" crack from rim. A 2 1/8" x 3/8" flake to interior of rim. A small chip and minor nick to interior of rim. A chip and 1 3/8" crack to one handle. A small chip to opposite handle. A short in-the-firing fissure to underside. H 14 3/8".
