Exceptional Yale Art Pottery Stoneware Mug with Figural Decoration, Inscribed "YALE FOR EVER," late 19th or early 20th century, semi-ovoid mug with Albany-slip-glazed surface, featuring an artistically-rendered design of a woman's bust with brushed Albany slip features and incised hair. Decoration is surrounded by a deeply-carved and scored surface forming the inscriptions, "YALE FOR EVER," and "Y." Underside incised with the Albany-slip-highlighted name, "Vic Wilson," for Victor Wilson, Yale Class of 1901. A wonderful melding of the utilitarian stoneware medium with the American Art Pottery Movement, the image closely-related to the "Gibson Girl" aesthetic popularized by artist, Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944). Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 4 1/2".
