Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Flowerpot with Elaborate Crimping, Western PA origin, circa 1860, ovoid form with attached saucer and tooled rim, the midsection and shoulder embellished with three bands of heavily-crimped molding; decorated around the body with a brushed swag and diagonal dot motif. Salt-glazed stoneware flowerpots are considered rare. This example features some of the most delicate potting we have seen in a flowerpot in this medium. Significant restoration to rim. Some restoration to saucer. Restored crack extending from underside to rim. Restoration to center of underside. Some restoration to top row of crimping. A faint, unrestored Y-shaped line in underside. A small amount of unrestored chipping to crimping. H 7 1/2" ; Diam. (across base) 6 1/2".
