Two Buffalo, NY Stoneware Advertising Jugs, Buffalo, NY origin, third quarter 19th century, a two-gallon cylindrical jug impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "G. GRIMARD / IMPORTER OF / WINES, LIQUOR'S CEGARS ETC. / & / MANUFACTURER OF / FRENCH & GERMAN MUSTARD / 356 MAIN, ST / BUFFALO N.Y." Jug is inscribed with a slip-trailed "G." for "Grimard." Paired with a two-gallon cylindrical jug, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "FUCHS BROTHERS / IMPORTERS OF / WINES, BRANDIES, SEGARS, ETC. / 390. MAIN ST. / BUFFALO, N,Y." Jug is inscribed "F.B.'s" in slip-trailed cobalt for "Fuchs Brothers." Although this jug is stamped "2," it appears slightly smaller than two gallons. Grimard jug with a spout chip and minor spout nick, a 2 1/4" line emanating from the side of the spout, a 2 3/4" line emanating from the base of the handle, a 1 3/8" partially-glazed-over iron ping to side of jug, a tiny in-the-firing iron ping to front, and minor chipping to base. Fuchs Brothers jug with small chips to top of spout and a horizontal surface line to underside of handle.
