Unusual Redware Bowl with Spiraling Manganese Slip Decoration, American, early to mid 19th century, with rounded sides and semi-squared rim, the cavetto decorated with a continuous spiral of manganese slip under a clear lead glaze. Related decorations can be seen in earlier work by Henry Piercy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Alexandria, Virginia, as well as in a few examples of North Carolina redware. Two adjacent chips to interior and exterior of rim with J-shaped crack descending from them along cavetto. Other light wear to cavetto. Some flakes to interior base. H 3 1/4" ; Diam. 9 7/8".
