Fine Sgraffito-Decorated Redware Jar with Rope-Twist Handles, Eastern Pennsylvania origin, probably Vickers Family, Chester County, PA, first quarter 19th century, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with open rope-twist handles, the surface covered in a heavy yellow slip and decorated with pinwheel or fylfot motifs around the shoulder and below each handle. Vertically-striped copper decoration below. Interior and exterior surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Rim chips, including heavy chipping to one side of rim. Wear to handles. A small glaze flake to side of jar, probably in-the-firing. Minor chipping to base. H 8".
