Exceptional Large-Sized Redware Sugar Bowl with Profuse Slip Decoration, PA origin, probably Berks County, circa 1840-1880, ovoid form with footed base, tooled shoulder, and rope-twist handles, decorated in copper and manganese slip with swag motifs, stylized daisy blossoms, alternating pyramidal spots, and straight and wavy lines. Additional copper and manganese decoration to handles. Appealing form with outstanding use of various slip motifs. Interior and exterior surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Heavy chipping to exterior of rim and surface wear to interior of rim. Wear to handles. Some glaze loss to surface on one side. A 2" flake to underside of bowl. One base chip. Additional light wear throughout surface. A small amount of glaze loss to interior base. H 6" ; Diam. 8 1/4".
