Extremely Rare Rockingham Presentation Soapdish, Inscribed "L B T Oches / N. 14 May 1850 / Baltimore," Thomas Oches at the E. & W. Bennett Pottery, Baltimore, MD, 1850, molded oblong soapdish, the glazed surface decorated in spattered shades of dark amber over a cream ground. Incised presentation inscription on underside, including the initials, "L B," possibly for a Bennett family member, and the signature of its maker, Thomas Oches. Oches is listed in the 1860 U.S. Federal Census as a master potter living in the same ward as the Bennetts in Baltimore. Additionally incised "1850" on reverse. Excellent condition. L 6 1/4".
