Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "EARNEST & COWLES," Baltimore, MD, circa 1830, cylindrical jar with footed base and rounded rim, decorated around the body with a continuous stem bearing tulips and graduated leaves, a motif modeled after the work of Baltimore's Parr family. Made at an East Baltimore stoneware pottery owned by merchants, George Earnest and Wesley Cowles, this jar is one of less than ten examples bearing their stamp known. A significant recent discovery in early Baltimore stoneware. Excellent condition with two small base chips and some in-the-firing flaws to surface.
