Exceptional Rockingham Presentation Hunt Scene Pitcher with Applied Frog, Inscribed "MRS JAMES HIGGINS," attributed to John L. Rue & Co., South Amboy, NJ, circa 1860-1871, molded pitcher with twig-form handle and relief decoration of hunters on horseback with hounds chasing a stag, the surface decorated with brown, green, and blue sponging over a cream-colored ground. Hand incised details to relief branch motif at shoulder. Front inscribed with the name, "MRS JAMES HIGGINS," in applied white letters accented with cobalt. Additional cobalt decoration to rim. Interior glazed white with molded and applied from, glazed in a green and brown, on interior base. Among the most brilliantly-glazed South Amboy presentation pitcher that we have ever offered. Professionally-restored chips to handle. Areas of professional restoration to edge of pitcher's flared belly. A few restored chips to bottom edge. A minor unrestored chip to underside along edge.
