Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Inkwell, attributed to Nathan Clark, Athens, NY, circa 1830, cylindrical form with heavily-tooled edge, fashioned with a central ink reservoir and two quill holes, the top with brushed cobalt swag decoration and cobalt highlights to the tooled lines. Two base chips. Several tiny nicks to base. Some additional in-the-firing roughness to base. A glazed-over rim chip. Minor in-the-firing chips / contact mark to rim area. An in-the-firing contact mark to side of inkwell, including a minor in-the-firing surface chip. H 2" ; Diameter 4 1/2".
