Five-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, OH origin, circa 1850, highly-ovoid, wide-mouthed jug with footed base, decorated with an abstract, brushed design of a bird standing on a stylized ground. A 1" chip to side of spout. Two salt drips to front. A faint 3" line on underside, continuing 3" onto base. Some shallow chipping to base, most or all of which occurred in the firing. An in-the-firing recessed spot to jug at decoration on front, and a second recessed spot with in-the-firing contact mark on left shoulder of jug. H 18 1/2".
