Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to William Morgan, possibly in Partnership with Thomas Amoss, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed design of a figure-8-shaped flower blossom flanked by graduated leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional color and heavy, enamel-like slip-trailing. Incised "4" at shoulder. Base chips. A large, inverted T-shaped crack descending approximately 9 1/2" from rim. A spider line on underside, extending a short distance onto base, not visible on interior.
