Two Stoneware Lids, American, third quarter 19th century, one with swag-and-floral motif, attributed to Henry H. or Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865; the other with swag decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1855. Remmey lid with a large in-the-firing iron ping to underside, a small, glazed-over chip to flange on underside, a small salt drip to top, a 3 1/2" hairline to edge, and a 2 1/2" hairline extending from edge. Baltimore lid with a thin 4 3/4" crack from edge and some chipping to flange on underside, most of which occurred in the making. Diam. (of Remmey lid) 10 1/2".
