Outstanding Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Eagle Decoration, Stamped "WM. E. WARNER. / WEST-TROY," NY State origin, circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and slightly-flared rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flying eagle holding a scrolled vine in its beak. Excellent dashed detail to wings and tail. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A fine example of William Warner's most iconic decoration, featuring a lesser-seen vine as opposed to the typical banner in the bird's beak. Excellent condition with a small chip to left handle and some minor, in-the-firing pings to surface.
