Very Rare Stoneware Harvest Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Beaver, PA origin, circa 1865, domed form with two applied pouring spouts, ribbed handle, and button-shaped finial, decorated on the front and reverse with two fuchsias conjoined at the stem, applied over a slip-coated surface. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and around bases of spouts. A wonderfully-decorated example of a highly-prized form, surviving in rarely-seen, undamaged condition. Literature: Illustrated in Made in Pennsylvania: A Folk Art Tradition, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some staining. H (to top of handle) 11 1/2".
