Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spittoons, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, both of similar footed form with carved oval openings at shoulder and recessed circular openings on top. One decorated around the body with several groups of swags and around the opening with petal-shaped brushwork, impressed "R.C.R. PHILA." below opening. The other unsigned, with unusual cobalt-highlighted banding and petal-shaped brushwork around the opening. Signed spittoon in excellent condition with a minor base chip and a minor chip to opening on top. Unsigned spittoon with 1 5/8" base chip on reverse. H (of signed spittoon) 4 1/8" ; D (signed spittoon) 7 1/8".
