Rare Stoneware Presentation Mug with Incised Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, Dated 1882, cylindrical mug with tooled banding, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted wreath surrounding the inscription, "Jacob F. Rustle / 1882." Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The incising on this mug is in the same hand as that seen on other Richard C. Remmey presentation pieces. Jacob Friedrich Reustle was a Philadelphia laborer, born in Wurttemberg in or about 1799. He died at the age of 83 on October 20, 1882, meaning this mug was made for him the year of his death. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. A 9/16" base chip on reverse. H 4 7/8".
