Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Grapevine Motif, attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, circa 1835, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled collar, decorated with an undulating vine bearing leaves and several clusters of grapes. Collar decorated with a fan-shaped floral motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals, including heavy swag decoration to lower terminal. An elegantly potted and decorated example of the Remmey family's early work from Philadelphia. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-year PA collection. Four base chips, the largest measuring 1 1/8". An approximately 9" vertical hairline extending from base to shoulder on side of pitcher. A relatively minor, 3/4" in-the-firing contact mark to right of handle. H 13 1/2".
