Very Rare Glazed Redware Figure of a Tiger, Berks County, PA origin, fourth quarter 19th century, hand-modeled figure of a reclining tiger with turned head, upturned paw, and curled tail, atop an oval base. Deeply-incised stripes and other details throughout. Nice modeling to the tiger's paw includes the animal's foot pad. Base with coggled wavy line decoration around top and draped wavy line decoration around edge. Surface covered in a heavy lead glaze over an orange ground. This cat was made by the same maker as the iconic Santa Claus bank sold in Crocker Farm's May 21, 2005 auction. Various other, exceptionally well-modeled banks and figurals can be attributed to this as-yet-unidentified maker. Very nice condition with shallow chipping to one ear, a small in-the-firing ping to rear leg and base, and a short surface line to base. L 6 1/4".
