Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Harvest Jug, Incised "J.A. Watson / Jane Lew / April 29 1893," attributed to the Colvin Pottery, Jane Lew, WV origin, 1893, beehive form with applied wide and narrow pouring spouts. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip and decorated in cobalt with a long, leafy stem below a freehand "2." Incised vertically along the side of the jug with the inscription, "J.A. Watson/ Jane Lew / April 29 1893," presumably the signature of the jug's maker. An outstanding example of Jane Lew, West Virginia stoneware, noteworthy in its form, size, and incised inscription. Missing handle. A spider crack to base area on side of jug, which includes two cracks extending to jug's midsection. H 12 5/8".
