Very Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Splashed Black-Blue Slip Decoration, attributed to the Hedgecough Pottery, Putnam County, TN, late 19th or early 20th century, stylishly-potted, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and square-edged handle with applied spurs and incised diagonal banding. Surface dramatically-decorated with splattered and brushed bluish-black slip under a clear salt glaze. This decorative treatment is unusual for Hedgecough stoneware, as most pieces were simplistically-decorated with dipped slip. Scarce maker and desirable form. Excellent condition with a tiny nick to rim. H 9 1/4".
