Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Pitcher and Bowl Set, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, wheel-thrown pitcher with footed base, upswept spout, and ribbed strap handle with applied thumbrest and spurs. Surface dipped in cream-colored slip with overlying streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Bowl with strap handles embellished with faux screwhead terminals and applied balls of clay, the rear of the bowl with applied soap dish surmounted by "fiddlehead" scrollwork flanked by balls of clay. Surface of bowl dipped in a cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks of copper and manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. This set features a pitcher with unusually-narrow neck, creating a more elegant form than most examples. Pitcher in excellent condition with a 3/4" flake below spout. Bowl with glaze loss to rim and handles, a crack through right handle, wear to edge of soapdish, wear and a small chip to fiddlehead ornament, a few small glaze flakes to interior, and a small base chip on reverse.
