Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to John and James Miller, Strasburg, VA, circa 1835, stylishly-potted, ovoid pitcher with narrow base and tooled collar, decorated on the front with leaf-like designs forming a cross, interspersed with additional brushwork. Spout decorated with additional floral or foliate brushwork. Handle professionally restored. Some restoration to spout. Two 1 1/4" lines from rim on side of pitcher. A 1 1/4" base chip on reverse as well as some restoration to base. A thin, approximately 4 1/2" vertical crack from base on side of pitcher.
