Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Chicken Waterer with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, domed form with applied watering trough, stepped finial, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed tulip motif at the top of the trough, foliate motifs around the edge, and a drooping tulip motif on the reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a swag motif spanning the area under each handle. Stamped "2" at shoulder, denoting two gallons. Desirable form and impressive large size. Good condition. A tight 3 1/2" line to reverse. A 1 5/8" line to right handle. A few chips to edge of opening. A 2 1/2" area of tight surface lines to base area of trough. A short in-the-firing separation line where trough meets body of water. Some faint in-the-firing crazing to finial. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on front and reverse. H 14 1/2".
