Molded Stoneware Lion Doorstop, possibly Western PA or WV origin, circa 1885, molded figure of a reclining lion atop a rectangular base with serrated edge, the surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze. The high-fired reddish-orange base clay, visible on the underside of the lion, as well as the color of the Albany slip used to decorate this piece, are both highly reminiscent of Western PA tanware. Some surface wear. A few shallow chips to underside along bottom edge. L 7 5/8".
