Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Freehand Cobalt Decoration, possibly Boughner Family or J. Littell, Greensboro, PA, circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with squared rim and tooling to shoulder area, decorated with straight and wavy stripes and vining above a freehand "2" surrounded by four groups of freehand vining. Base with additional straight and wavy stripe decoration. Cracks in underside, one of which extends partway up body of jar to left of the freehand "2" and another that extends onto base area on right side of jar. Touch-up to cobalt of swag diagonally-left below the number "2." Exfoliation to base on right side of jar. Some minor surface wear. A few chips to interior of rim.
