Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Sailboat Decoration, Stamped "LYONS," Thompson Harrington, Lyons, NY, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a sailboat among waves with cobalt-highlighted sail and a flag at the top of its mast. A brushed cobalt "1" appears to the left and right of the design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. The only piece of Thompson Harrington stoneware that we have seen depicting a sailboat. Broken into pieces and reglued, with some chipping along crack lines. Heavy chipping to rim. Two minor nicks to inner rim for lid. A small chip and minor nick to left handle.
