Extremely Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Flowerpot with Saucer, attributed to David Greenland Thompson, Morgantown, WV, circa 1885, wheel-thrown, tapered pot, decorated around the rim with three different molded and applied pine cones of various styles. At least three different pine cone molds are used, one depicting a short pine cone in profile, another depicting the top of a pine cone with stem visible, and a third (used only once) depicting a long, thin pine cone. Includes original saucer with flared wall and tooled top edge. Surface of pot covered in a light salt glaze over a reddish ground. Saucer covered in a heavy salt glaze over a mottled ground. Original drain hole in bottom of pot. Pot in good condition with some long faint spider lines to surface, some of which are partially visible on interior, two short surface cracks to interior of rim (not visible on exterior), and a minor base chip. Saucer with a small rim chip and some light edge wear. H (of pot, excluding saucer) 7 3/8" : H (of pot, including saucer) 8". Diam. (of saucer) 6 1/2".
