Rare Stoneware Face Jug with Spattered Albany Slip Decoration, Midwestern origin, possibly Ohio or Kentucky, circa 1900, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with an applied clay face, including depressed circular eyes, prominent nostrils, and open mouth. Unusual placement of the handle on the side of jug rather than the reverse. Appealing spattered Albany slip, in a glossy, chocolate-brown color over a matte, cream-colored ground. Provenance: Ex-Rob Girouard. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small, in-the-firing iron ping to reverse. H 9 1/4".
