Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed graduated swag design. Handle terminals decorated with cobalt highlights and undersides of handles decorated with a scalloped line of cobalt. Includes swag-decorated stoneware lid, probably original to the crock. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced Northeastern U.S. collection assembled decades ago. Crock with rim chips and a thin 2 1/4" line from rim as well as some whitish (water glass?) residue to interior. Lid broken into two pieces and reglued, with tiny nick to knob. H (of crock including lid 6 1/4" ; Diameter (of crock) 8 1/4".
