Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey or Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical form with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with two large drooping floral motifs on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Includes a loosely-fitting lid, impressed "5" on underside and not original to the crock, decorated with brushed swags and a cobalt highlight around the knob. Crock with a vertical in-the-firing separation to interior, not visible on exterior. Additionally, a 1 3/4" separation to exterior of rim, not visible on interior. A tiny chip and minor ping to interior of rim. Lid with a 1 1/4" x 3/4" loss to edge with a short in-the-firing crack extending from it, a chip to knob, and a chip and some short lines to flange on underside.
